From the moment we met, in 2007, we both felt a special connection. We made each other laugh (a lot) and even everyday experiences felt like adventures. We quickly learned that we shared similar values: devotion to family and friends, a desire to help others through our work, and dreams of raising children. Over the years, our bond grew. In 2011 we got married, and viewed it as both a symbol of our commitment and an exciting step toward building a family.
In 2016 we were blessed with our son, Kiernan, who entered our family through adoption. He has brought so much joy to our lives, and parenting him has been more rewarding than we ever imagined. We would love nothing more than to welcome another child into our home and expand our family.
Our relationship is solid. It is based on love, affection, and mutual respect. We strive to communicate openly, to find humor in life, and to respond to each other’s needs. When one of us is stressed out, the other looks for ways to ease his mind. And when one of us excels, the other is the first to celebrate. We make a good team.
“I have always been struck by Hank's honesty, kindness, and warmth. He is soft-spoken and very thoughtful. He laughs easily and often, and does not take himself too seriously (except for his chocolate stash at work—don’t try coming between him and that afternoon snack!).
Hank is a man of intelligence, humor, and integrity. Friends and family respect him and know they can count on him to follow through on his commitments. He loves deeply, and kids are drawn to his gentle demeanor.
Hank is a great dad—Kiernan loves his papa, and it's so sweet to watch them spend time together. Hank is very patient. He enjoys reading to Kiernan, making up games, and playing the same old ones (sometimes again and again). Hank celebrates Kiernan's achievements and takes delight in watching him grow."
“Chris is a kid at heart. He’s playful and silly, and loves to make people laugh. He also never gets tired of eating candy.
Chris is kind, thoughtful, caring, and empathetic. It’s no wonder he chose a career as a therapist. Chris is always there for friends and family, offering to listen or lend a helping hand. And his intelligence and character make him someone who inspires confidence in others.
Most importantly, Chris is an incredible father. He is attuned to Kiernan's needs, and provides him with stability, security, and unconditional love. Kiernan loves his dad.”
Kiernan is a total sweetheart. He's a big fan of music, trucks, and playing with our two dogs, Harvey and Hudson. He is very social, loves to make people laugh, and would be thrilled to have a little brother or sister.
We are fortunate to have loving, supportive families. When we bought our house, we chose it to be close to family, and we see them almost every day. We value our time together, whether celebrating a birthday or holiday, sharing a meal, or simply hanging out. Hank's mother and Chris’s sister each live ten minutes away, and Kiernan has strong relationships with them, as well as with our three nieces.
We also have a circle of close friends, including other adoptive and two-dad families. Time spent together is full of good meals, lots of laughter, and fun playing games with the kids.
As you consider open adoption as one of your options, know that we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please reach out any time.
